A mrita Rao certainly seems to be going places. The actress has had super success with a Telugu film titled Athidhi with Telugu star Mahesh Babu, directed by Surendra Reddy. She has also bagged a presti gious film with Shyam Benegal, titled Mahadev.

Speaking about Athidhi, Amrita says, "The film is in a dreamlike surreal manner, in which my imaginations rise to the level of overshad owing the superwoman. It is on the lines of Matrix. I have different look in the film. It is unlike the characterisation and persona that I have portrayed in Hindi films. It has been received well. I saw people literally celebrating the film. They came with tons of confetti and aimed it across the screens in joy."

About mastering the language that she had to speak for the film, Amrita says, "I had to work a lot on the language. I am a perfectionist and so I did a lot of homework. Mahesh kept reminding me to put in my best for this role. The kind of stunts I enacted was the first time that any female artiste has done in the South."

When asked what made her turn towards South Indian cinema Amrita says, "I have always cherished being a part of the Hindi film industry and now I am already 10 films old. When I got an offer from Mahesh, I was very nervous about how I could ever work with such a brilliant actor. He is the Shah Rukh Khan of the South. He reminded me a lot of Shah Rukh in Main Hoon Naa. What is great about him is that he understands others and has no ego issues. He is very helpful. The script was also mind blowing so I could not refuse the offer. If I get good scripts, I shall continue working in the South."

Amrita has been linked with most of her co-stars, so obviously she wasn't spared the same treatment as far as Mahesh was concerned. She laughs and replies, "Are people really linking me with him? Rumours don't bother me now. It's a part of the experience in the industry.

By now I have got accustomed to these linkups and as long as I know what's happening in my life, it doesn't trouble me. Why should Namrata (Mahesh's wife) be insecure when there is nothing between us?

Synopsis ::

Athidi is another out and out mass entertainer from Superstar Mahesh after Pokiri. Athidi's protagonist is an orphan, whose sense of faithfulness and commitment is unswerving.



Even after 13 years since the incident, he remains indebted to a family that takes him home and gives him one square meal.



to give away too much of the story, the main theme revolves around the heroine and how Mahesh protects her from the villains who are trying to kill her.



The screenplay, which has been deftly handled by Vakkantham Vamsi and the on screen narration style adopted by Surendra Reddy keeps the proceedings interesting and the audience glued to their seats



The romantic and sentiment scenes built around this core theme have been handled exceptionally.

Mahesh has graduated into a "paripoorna natudu" with this film. The body language projected by him for his role in Pokiri was responsible for making it a huge it; here in Athidi, he presents a different, equally powerful and enthralling dimension to his body language.

Sunil and Brahmanandam also performed well in the comedy department. Ashish Vidyardhi is also good in his role.

UTV and KPPL are planning never-seen-before publicity for Athidi in twin cities.

They are not leaving any single chance, now they are utilising the cricket match which gonna happen between India and Australia on Oct 5th.

UTV is coming up with three new ads to display in the drinks intervals.

Newly built Uppal stadium is getting ready for the cricket match.

This is the double dhamaka for movie and cricket lovers of greater city as well TV spectators.

UTV plans big release for Telugu film Athidhi

UTV Motion Pictures' maiden Telugu co-production venture with Krishna

Production - Athidhi -will be released on the 18 October on occasion of Dussehra.

To hit the right notes in Tollywood, UTV is planning the widest ever release for this Mahesh Babu starrer with approximately 400 prints worldwide. In addition to this the promotion and marketing spends for the movie are close to Rs 35 - 40 million (Rs 3.5 - 4 crores).

Moreover, cashing in on Mahesh Babu's new look in the movie, three vinyl posters of Athidhi were recently put up at Prasad multiplex in Hyderabad.

Since the multiplex is situated at a prime location, UTV's associate vice president India distribution Suniel Wadhwa, claims that close to six lakh people may have already set their eyes on these posters within just a few days.

Also this is the first of its kind promotion for a Telugu film.

Mahesh Babu endorsed Thums Up has been roped in for a Rs 15 million (Rs 1.5 crore) marketing campaign.

In addition to this, BIG FM and Kingfisher too will have marketing spends amounting to Rs 5 million (Rs 50 lakhs) and Rs 8 million (Rs 80 lakhs) respectively.

Further UTV too is shelling out Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore) for the promotional materials and activities.

Mahesh Babu's previous blockbuster Pokiri had released with approximately 220 prints in its first week and the number kept increasing gradually as the movie picked up.

His fans are predicting that Athidhi would also be a big hit and definitely complete 100 days again on the lines of Pokiri.

Wadhwa adds, "UTV is planning a simultaneous release of the movie, but the details will be clear only closer to the release date."

While UTV will be distributing the movie in Nizam, Krishna, Vellor and Ceaded through their offices in Hyderabad and Vijaywada;

Pyramid Saimira will distribute the movie in Vizag, East Godavari, West Godavari and Guntur. A total of 300 prints will be released in Andhra Pradesh only.

Approximately 40 prints have been kept aside for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and North India (Bombay, Pune, Delhi, Solapur, Kolhapur, Satara etc.).

While Kaveri Cinema will distribute the movie in Karnataka the distributor for Tamil Nadu is yet to be finalised.

Prawasi Movies will release the movie in overseas with approximately 60 prints with US being the major market.

Athidhi has been made on a budget of Rs 185 million (Rs 18.5 crores).

Amrita Rao stars alongside Mahesh Babu in the movie.

The film is an action – drama and its action sequences have been shot in a stylized fashion and will form a major highlight of the film.

A n excited Amrita Rao is keeping her fingers crossed for the release of her first Telugu film Atithi where she plays a college girl living life on her terms.

The actress says when director Surender Reddy approached her for the film, she couldn't say no as she was getting the opportunity to be in a film where the heroine's role was as significant as the hero's part.

This is not common, according to her, in the otherwise male dominated Telugu film industry.

Another reason for saying yes could be that it was her leading man Mahesh Babu's sister Manjula who introduced the actress to people from the industry.

But Amrita claims, "I saw Mahesh's films even before I ventured into Tollywood and I was impressed with his acting skills."

Actresses who are a flop in Bollywood usually land up in the South Indian film industry and often get very popular here.

What were Amrita's reasons for doing regional cinema when she still has offers from Bollywood in her kitty?

"It's destiny because this film was offered to me when all my other projects had been postponed. I am getting many offers from Tollywood now and I'll be happy to work for another project," she says.

Amrita was in town for nearly two months while shooting for Atithi and says she has taken a liking to the city and enjoys eating curd rice with a spicy tadka.

Does this mean she loves working here and has no complaints?

"The only difference between Bollywood and Telugu films is that here, I had early morning calls for shooting everyday.

By the end of the day I used to be really tired."

The actress doesn't find much difference between SRK who is the king of Bollywood and Mahesh Babu,

as Mahesh too finishes his shot in a single take, just like SRK.

is tremendorous and he is very happy to see the Unanimous response from

everywhere.

He also said that due to few factors like piracy and other things they have not

been seeing much sales recently.

But for ATHIDI the story has been different they have been getting so many orders

that its been a tough time for them to meet the demand.

He also said that they are planning for a Hexa Platinum Disc Function soon.
