Why else would Telugu film Athidhi be released in northern India in select screens? Part of the reason is also the debacle of Saawariya . "Worldwide collections of Athidhi in 11 days grossed Rs 25 crore with just 325 prints in 712 screens,
" says Girish Johar, northern head, UTV Motion Pictures, which produced the film in association with Krishna Productions (P) Ltd.
"Its success in south India, prompted us to take the film to north India," he says. The film is still ringing cash registers in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states.
Athidhi' s box office collections are reportedly even more than some of the popular Bollywood releases, including Cheeni Kum, Fool 'n' Final, Naqaab, Cash, Dhol, Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Jab We Met and now , Saawariya .
" Jab We Met did very well in its second week due to the failure of Saawariya.
After three days, Saawariya slipped terribly,"
says trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh
